What are your thoughts on home buying or selling? Have you thought you would like to buy a home, but think you might wait a little longer and see if the market price will drop again? Don't wait too long. The home buying market in Union County has picked up in the past couple of months. For the month of October, 2009 home sales were ahead of October, 2008 and this year’s sold price was only a few percentage points lower than last year. This is not to say we are anywhere close to the years 2006 and 2007 market activity. It will probably be a very long time before we approach those levels again. Until the unemployment rate goes down and people are feeling secure in their jobs, I don't think we will get anywhere close.

On the home selling side the pace has quickened a little as I said above. The price has dropped some, but not the huge drops experienced in other parts of the country. If you have a home to sell, you may not be able to list and sell it with the large appreciation rates we had in the past, but on the buying side you might be able to make up some of the difference.

The market has, and is still correcting itsself, but there are still some good home buying deals available.
