Have we reached the bottom in sales or will they continue on their downward spiral? Sales reached a peak in 2006 in Union County, NC for single-family homes, townhomes and condominiums, according to information I pulled from www.carolinahome.com. For 2009, looking at four moderate priced subdivisions in Waxhaw, prices are trending up in three and down in one. Those trends look promising, but we have a long way to go and may never get back to the levels we were at a few years ago. Some economists say the economy is looking better. It's good to think positive, but you have to be real also. Unemployment is hurting. Some of those working are afraid of losing their jobs and will hold off for awhile. People will buy homes, just not like they did in the past. That means we have to work harder.
My goal this year is to increase my customer service. Customer service is one thing I do have control over. I have always tried to provide good service, but there is always room for improvement. Another goal is to increase my internet exposure. My website www.larrybunch.com is a start. I also plan to increase my use of active rain and stay up with articles on Broker Agent Social. According to NAR 90% of first time and repeat buyers used the internet during their home search.
We may or may not be at the bottom in home sales, but to stay in business I will have to go back to the basics. I remember when I first started in real estate. Being a new agent, I was always open to trying new ideas and for some reason got away from that. Maybe it was just a case of getting lazy. Maybe business was so easy to come by I didn't have to work as hard. Maybe it was a combination of both. This is a good business to be in, but it is not an easy business. Seasoned agents need to remember that and new agents need to be told that.
