Waxhaw, NC in the Summertime

Waxhaw, NC in the summertime. I moved here in 1978. It has changed a lot, especially on the outskirts of town. Hopefully, our town commission will not tear down buildings like they have in Charlotte. When we moved to Charlotte in 1976 it had a certain charm to it, but they have been in the process of tearing down the old and replacing them with tall shiny buildings with no charm. See below for another photo.

Waxhaw, NC home sales in the 28173 zip code for 2010 stand at 43 single family homes sold. Looking back at last year for the same time period, home sales were 42 single family homes sold. It's way too early to say we have turned the corner on homes sales, but it's good to know we are close to last year. Now, I know, sales last year were in the tank, but try to look on the bright side, we have not yet dropped below that.
Another thing, here in Waxhaw, we have had a very wet and cold winter. Not as much snow as some of our northern friends, thank goodness, but it has still been wet and cold. Even with that and the unemployment on a national level at 9.7% through January and 11.2% for the state of North Carolina (through December, 2009) and for the Charlotte-Gastonia-Concord metropolitan area 12.1% (through December), sales still held their own.

Now, how will sales go in the coming months? No one knows! Don't go by what the economists say. They have NO idea. Depending on who you read, they are all over the board. I do not believe real estate sales will recover unless the unemployment rate declines and Americans start feeling more secure in their jobs. That could really go without saying, but I said it anyway. Another thing I believe is, big government needs to get out of the way and let America do what America does best, create real jobs. Put people to work making and building things.
